We visited the family-run Eddie’s in Hove on a busy Saturday lunchtime and were delighted to have found it. This wonderful café offers a mixture of traditional English favourites and Polish specialities. It has only been open since summer 2016 but is already receiving glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, and we could instantly see why.
We were greeted by Eddie himself on arrival and shown to an impeccably clean table. Despite the busy weekend service, the staff were faultlessly friendly and welcoming.
The extensive menu includes all-day breakfast and I was very tempted to order that, but having never tried Polish cuisine before, I finally went for the chicken escalope served with rice and a small salad. The portion of meat was generous and exceptionally tasty and tender. My companion ordered a jacket potato with cheese and beans, and again the portion size was excellent and the dish came with a salad.
Eddie made for an exceptional host throughout our meal, welcoming guests young and old while contributing to the lively atmosphere of the venue. The dessert selection was equally fantastic. As a fully licensed café, Eddie’s is a great venue to celebrate those special occasions, also being available for private hire. We’ll certainly be heading back soon to purchase another slice of carrot cake, which was mouth-wateringly good.
