Since being appointed head chef at the Waterside Restaurant in Rendezvous Casino, Ian Moore has overseen some significant changes. With a friendly, knowledgeable front-of-house-team and a menu that puts fresh ingredients and fantastic flavours at its heart, Waterside Restaurant is developing a reputation as a first-rate dining destination.
The restaurant keeps things simple, cooking all dishes fresh to order with first-class ingredients, and this really comes across in the quality of the food on offer. We struggled to choose from the tempting range of starters. In the end I opted for the exquisite Brie fritters. Light and flavoursome, the balance was just right between the oozing cheese and the crunchy breadcrumb, with lightly spiced caramelised onion chutney to complete the experience. My companion chose equally well, with light and fresh smoked salmon and crayfish roulade.
The menu offers an incredible variety of main courses, with options ranging from the delightfully dirty double bacon cheeseburger to refined lemon and thyme risotto. We opted for delicate pan-fried duck breast with fondant potatoes and a tender 28-day-aged fillet. The quality and range of the steaks on offer at Waterside Restaurant is remarkable. If you don’t fancy a fillet, opt for flavoursome Buccleuch T-bone, rib-eye, or perhaps the wagyu sirloin. Each steak comes with pleasantly chunky chips that are crisp on the outside and beautifully fluffy on the inside. If you fancy something further there’s a great selection of sides, including rich and satisfying creamed leeks with bacon, and generous portions of seasonal vegetables. We’d recommend leaving space for dessert. I especially enjoyed the rich and velvety deconstructed tiramisu, which was paired with lovely toffee ice cream. My companion sampled the indulgent brûléed white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.
This is the casino’s main restaurant and the dining area overlooks the casino floor, making for a fun and rather unique dining experience. Guests can pop down to enjoy an evening’s gambling, or simply dine and take in the scene. The Waterside Restaurant welcomes everyone from office parties to couples looking for a romantic evening meal so you’ll never be short of a reason to visit.
