Wellington Farm Shop
Farm Shop and Cafe
Wellington Farm Shop occupies a rather secret spot in the Hampshire countryside, between Reading and Basingstoke. An expansion has tripled the size of the on-site café, meaning there’s even more opportunity to sample wonderful home cooking and superb produce. The café has brought with it a focus on lunchtime, with a fantastic selection of sandwiches and hot meals available. Fishcakes are made using fresh seafood and served with buttery new potatoes, and the fish fingers with Bloody Mary ketchup mustn’t be missed. Certain dishes, the popular chilli con carne for example, can be enjoyed in the café or taken home from the farm shop to relish later. Should you fancy a coffee, you’ll find beans from local Read’s Coffee.
Somewhere in the region of 50 per cent of the products available in the farm shop are sourced from local suppliers, ensuring superior taste and quality. All meat is locally sourced and prepared on-site by the three butchers, who are always available to advise customers when selecting cold cuts, joints, steaks and traditional products like faggots, pies and pastries. At the cheese counter, you’ll find a large range of British and Continental cheeses, including award-winning Barkham Blue and Village Maid varieties from Riseley, and a local baker delivers fresh loaves and speciality breads every morning. For the sweet-toothed, there’s even honey and honeycomb from hives on the estate. Wine is sourced from Berry Bros & Rudd in Basingstoke. Completing the experience, the knowledgeable staff have sampled everything and are ready to assist – they can even help make up hampers and gifts.
