If you're looking for a home-grown country pub that combines excellent food with a warm atmosphere, look no further than The Hogget in Hook. Step inside and sample one of the wonderful local ales, perhaps while admiring the classic olde-worlde beams and vintage-style leather chairs that complement the charming bar.

The chefs here obviously love their food, as a passion for flavour and flair for presentation were apparent in every course. The menu showcases pub grub at its best, with a refined and individual touch that really sets it apart. We began with the blowtorched nachos, which were served with chilli and all the trimmings, and the seafood meze was equally delicious. The main courses were fabulous too, and we enjoyed the iconic gourmet bean burger - well-complemented by cheese, jalapeños and triple-cooked chips - and the classic American-ale-battered fish and chips. Portions for both were large, but every crumb was enjoyed.

The delicious homemade desserts were too tempting to resist, and the warm double chocolate brownie with bashed honeycomb did not let us down. The salted caramel and vanilla Jude's Ice Cream was a real treat, and both desserts made a fitting end to a fantastic dining experience.
