The Swan Hotel
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Superb beers and great-value quality wines are central to The Swan's traditional ethos. There are always four hand-pumped cask ales, at least one of which is from a local brewer. The pub has appeared in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for a remarkable 20 years - a sure testament to its dedication to quality ale. To accompany your pint, there is a daily menu available, written on large chalkboards. The food is wholesome and traditional, with a firm focus on quality, locally sourced produce. Hearty steaks are matched with homemade sauces, and fresh fish features strongly; the local catch from the Channel ports is cooked simply to allow the sublime, natural taste of the fish to shine through. Mixed game pie is a popular seasonal choice, and The Swan is also renowned for its homemade half-pound ground steak burger served with Stilton or mature Cheddar cheese, fresh salad and chunky fries - this is a favourite which is unlikely to be removed from the menu any time soon.
The lunchtime menu is simpler and a little lighter, with classics such as baked ham, eggs and chips and whitebait salad with crusty bread. The Swan Hotel offers nine individually styled, charming en-suite rooms with modern facilities. An overnight stay includes a freshly cooked traditional breakfast, or smoked haddock and poached eggs if you feel like something a bit different. With good company, great beer, lovely rooms and fresh food, The Swan is a true country inn which is sure to be around for another 400 years.
