The Portsmouth Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
This lively and welcoming establishment has a rustic air thanks to its beautiful old beams, which combined with wooden floors and bright walls finished off with a selection of humorous quotes, lend a relaxed yet elegant feel to this traditional pub. Run by regional family brewers Hall & Woodhouse, The Portsmouth Arms naturally serves many Badger beers, and complements this selection with a thoughtfully chosen wine list. The menu has a range of dishes to suit lighter appetites as well as those looking for a three-course dinner. We were also impressed to learn how accommodating the friendly team is when it comes to special dietary requirements – The Portsmouth Arms is a great choice for any dining party.
The food was excellent and the portions generous. To start, I chose spicy chicken wings with a blue cheese dip, while my wife enjoyed beer and cheese croquettes with balsamic glaze and a rocket salad. Both were delicious. For our main courses, my wife ordered a sirloin steak, which was cooked perfectly, while I chose loin of cod with ratatouille. My meal was an absolute delight to eat. To round things off, I went old-school with a treacle sponge and custard, which took me back to my childhood. My wife ended proceedings with a lighter, but no less accomplished, option of a scoop each of mango and raspberry sorbet.
