The Portsmouth Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
In the warm, friendly buzz of this very popular destination, oak beams abound, candles flicker invitingly, and the aroma of delicious food pervades.
The Portsmouth Arms caters for all tastes and occasions, with plenty of choice on offer. You’ll find traditional pub classics like burgers, steaks and pies, alongside more adventurous dishes such as cod au vin, Moroccan lamb tagine and vegan mac and cheese. From the wonderful selection available, we chose to start with a Butcher’s Plate to share, comprising succulent pork belly bites, lamb kofte, glazed sausages and Buffalo hot wings. Each element was as delicious as the last, and provided a tasty opening to the meal. To follow, I indulged in a chicken Kiev with smooth mash, green beans and roasted tomato sauce. Beautifully presented and with succulent and tender meat, this main course was a delight. My wife chose the pan-fried salmon pavé served atop potato hash with braised leeks, cabbage and peas – a fish dish that impressed even this seafood sceptic.
To round things off in style, we opted for the sticky toffee and rum sponge and the apple and sultana crumble – pure comfort food. The attentiveness, conviviality and overall ambience of The Portsmouth Arms make it a wonderful place to dine, drink and relax. I should know – I return as often as possible.
