The King and Queen
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Upon arrival we received a warm welcome from the staff, who remained attentive throughout our visit. It is clear people love to come here to both drink and dine - there are two cosy bar areas and an inviting dining area. The atmosphere throughout is relaxed and friendly; a great place to simply grab some drinks and catch up with friends, or to enjoy a delicious meal. A glance through the concise menu was enough to whet our appetites. On offer was a range of delicious starters, mains and desserts, as well as light bites for daytime visitors. We were fortunate enough to have our visit fall on 'Fish Friday', allowing us to extend our choice to options from a fresh fish specials menu as well. To start, I opted for the warm goat's cheese on dressed mixed leaves, whilst my guest chose mussels in a delicious cream and pear cider sauce. To follow, I opted for classic hunter's chicken, which was wonderfully succulent, while my guest tucked into barracuda with a spicy twist from the specials menu. All food was freshly cooked and beautifully presented at the table. Much like the decor, the menu added modern twists to traditional dishes, and even the more 'simple' dishes were treated with great attention to detail, both in regards to flavour and presentation. This proved to be even more impressive when we noted the very reasonable prices. Amaretto cheesecake and Eton mess finished off our evening beautifully, and we left with full tummies and smiling faces.
