Handily located a short drive from Waddesdon Manor and Bicester Village shopping centre, yet boasting all of the charms of a countryside retreat, The Lion offers the best of both worlds.

It is the quintessential British pub, where traditional home-cooked food and a great selection of real ales are served by the hospitable team. Why not begin your visit with fi sh haddock goujons paired with homemade tartare sauce, or perhaps woodland forest terrine accompanied by sweet onion marmalade and Melba toast? To follow, the moules marinières are a lovely treat, while those looking for something heartier will enjoy the fresh haddock, which is served in a homemade beer batter and complemented by chips, mushy peas and bread. To finish, tuck into the likes of house crumble with custard, sticky toffee pudding or the cheesecake of the week. The pub’s Sunday lunch has a loyal following, and comprises a choice of beef, turkey, pork and nut roast, served with all the trimmings – homemade Yorkshire puddings, fresh vegetables and great roasties. There’s also a children’s carvery available for little diners – the whole family is welcome at The Lion.

After a top-notch meal, retire upstairs to one of the stylish bedrooms, before returning to the restaurant in the morning for a delicious full English breakfast. The contemporary rooms can also be booked by wedding parties, while reception dinners can be hosted in the restaurant or in a marquee on the lawn.
