Hartwell House & Spa
Hartwell House is a magnificent stately home situated in a glorious setting in the Vale of Aylesbury. Set in over 90 acres of gardens and parkland, landscaped by a contemporary of Capability Brown, Hartwell House & Spa is an oasis of peace and quiet and is the perfect place for an overnight stay, an intimate dinner or a celebratory event.
Hartwell House’s two-AA-rosette-awarded Soane Dining Room, with views over the lawns to the south, is a wonderful place to enjoy a special lunch or dinner. Executive head chef Daniel Richardson places great emphasis on locally sourced and home-grown food, from Oxfordshire lamb and Aylesbury duckling, to fruit and vegetables from their own gardens and orchards. A wide range of dishes are on offer at both lunch and dinner. Tempting first courses include pan-seared scallops with compressed cucumber, squid ink crackers and citrus fennel, and goat’s cheese croquette with heritage beetroot salad, quinoa, apricot purée and caraway chocolate. Then perhaps indulge in Aylesbury duckling with celeriac purée, Thai shallots, baby vegetables, fondant potato and anise sauce or pan-fried sea bass, textures of fennel, potato and dill gnocchi served with dill oil and white wine fish sauce. If you have room for dessert, try the milk chocolate ganache, made with Valrhona chocolate, espresso gel, aerated white chocolate and praline ice cream, or lemon treacle slice paired with blackcurrant curd, poached apples and clotted cream ice cream. There is also an award-winning wine list to choose from, with something for all palates and tastes.
Hartwell House is most famous for its traditional afternoon tea, which can be had in one of the three magnificent drawing rooms with views over the grounds. If you are looking to stay overnight, the hotel has 48 bedrooms and there are accommodation and dining offers throughout the year. In addition, there is a tranquil spa with an indoor pool, gym and treatment rooms in which to relax and unwind. Overlooking the pool is the Hartwell Café, offering all day dining with brunch, lunch and lighter snacks and refreshments.
There is nowhere quite like Hartwell House for quality food, service and surroundings, and no visit to the Vale of Aylesbury is complete without a sumptuous meal or afternoon tea at this historic venue.
