The Grill Steakhouse
Diners flock from far and wide to visit this hidden gem in the centre of Aylesbury, and it’s easy to see why. Primarily a steakhouse, The Grill offers phenomenal cuts of meat and so much more. Far from a run-of-the-mill steakhouse chain, The Grill serves first-class food and drink in relaxed, stylish surrounds with impeccable service to boot. The chef and owner – in partnership with a local farmer – rears his own cows and ensures that they are ethically slaughtered nearby. All of the steaks are hung for at least 28 days, before being basted in the restaurant’s secret-recipe sweet, smoky glaze. The result is a juicy, succulent and flavoursome cut of meat – certainly the best I’ve ever tasted.
Our meal started with an exceptionally tasty amuse-bouche brought to our table by the chef, comprising sliced cap of beef rib-eye dry cured for 30 days, marinated in brown sugar and balsamic vinegar and packed with salt and spices. This inventive morsel is typical of the chef, whose curiosity means he’s continually searching out new ideas and creations. The amuse-bouche set the
bar high, but was matched by our starters. I sampled spicy lamb cutlets, which were complemented by a cooling mint dressing, while my partner opted for grilled lobster tail slathered in sumptuous garlic and lemon butter.
For our main courses, we couldn’t resist sampling the steaks on offer, though there are plenty of other tempting options available, from fresh seafood and salads with flame-grilled meats to vegetarian offerings like the halloumi and mushroom burger. I ordered a medium-rare fillet steak, and the thick, mouth-wateringly tender cut that arrived was cooked perfectly. My partner plumped for a rib-eye, which was cooked just as expertly and was equally delicious. Both were served with chunky chips and salad, and a dressing of our choice. To round off proceedings we shared a delightful honeycomb cheesecake.
For a delicious, well-priced meal, excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere, you’ll be hard pressed to fi nd a better destination than The Grill – it’s well worth seeking out.
