The Royal Coach
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The Royal Coach is an independently run pub, and Graham can therefore pick and choose his suppliers, making sure that only the best ingredients reach your table. The inclusion of fresh lamb at his carvery, amongst the usual cuts of beef, gammon, turkey and pork, is something of a rare treat these days. All of the joints are perfectly prepared and seasoned to bring out the most subtle flavours of the meat. Even the small details are wonderful too - the pork crackling is wickedly moreish and the traditional gravy is well worth a mention. There is a full range of daily specials; on the day of my visit, locally sourced whole sea trout was the option which really stood out. Graham's conscientiousness extends to the beers served. Locally brewed Harveys is amongst the best cask-conditioned ales that I've tasted. This is all due to Graham's maxim: 'if I wouldn't drink it, I wouldn't serve it.' The Royal Coach truly is the best of British.
