If you're venturing out in Brighton in search of a decent traditional pub, then look no further than Romans. Perhaps you'll be visiting for a relaxed drink, have been tempted by the great-value food, or are popping in for a delicious Sunday roast; the music and beer festivals held by the pub are also well worth attending. Whatever your reason for calling in, you're guaranteed an enjoyable time at this charming local. A distinctively 1930s pub, Romans has maintained its characteristic decor complete with many of its original features such as the seating, bars and oak panels. If it gets too hot and sunny to dine by the warmth of the open fire, in the summer months the sizeable beer garden will be ideal for enjoying some lunch or a cold beer outside. A genuine welcome and friendly staff will complete your experience.

The food is a heartily traditional affair, with a 'pic 'n' mix' selection that includes hot cheesy nachos and platters, plus salads, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and omelettes which you can pack with your choice of tasty fillings. Main meals include familiar pub fare such as steak and ale pie, smoked salmon and dill fishcakes, beef madras or a vegetable chilli. For the diehard carnivores among you a selection of steak and grilled meats is available, all locally sourced from Southwick Square Meats and served with chips, mushrooms and a salad garnish. A specials menu, kids' menu, Sunday roasts and - weather permitting - barbecues are also on offer, and there is a great tapas menu, which is being launched in July, to look forward to. To finish, why not indulge in a very English dessert of sticky toffee pudding, or a glorious three-flavour ice cream in a meringue nest, served rather decadently with whipped cream. The beverages are just as good, with an extensive list that includes real ales, cider, premium lagers and cocktails.

Don't forget to check the website for upcoming quiz nights, live music and beer festivals. The team also specialises in catering for parties and functions. Make sure you stop in at Romans for the kind of atmosphere, food and drink that can only be found in a well-established, local British pub.
