Overlooking the River Adur in the picturesque town of Shoreham-by-Sea, The Bridge Inn commands an enviable position. Under the watchful direction of landlords Imogen Trickett and Mark Richards (who is also the head chef) the restaurant has been refurbished to a high standard. Diners enter through the restaurant's own entrance and are greeted by subtly lit tones of coffee and aubergine. There is plenty of seating, including a large outside area, from which to appreciate the view of the gently meandering river and houseboats beyond.

The menu however is what sets this inn apart from other seemingly similar establishments. Starters of pigeon foie gras parcels and sea bass with prawn toast are perfectly prepared and wonderfully presented, as is their new sharing range. Tuck into a healthy bowl of mussels with your loved one or indulge in a delicious Camembert. Mains range from fresh fish and lamb through to duck breast served with a sumptuous bubble and squeak in a sweet and sour sauce with pan-fried leeks. But it is the specials board that deserves particular attention. Proudly displaying the locally caught fish of the day, the range is amazing - sea bass, plaice, turbot, mussels and skate wing all vie for your attention. We concluded a thoroughly pleasant evening with a dessert of Mint Aero cheesecake and rich chocolate brownie, followed by the Sussex cheeseboard, which sealed the promise of a return visit.
