Brass bands, live performances and fresh food are all a monthly feature at Royton Real Food Market, held on the first Sunday of each month (March-December) from 10am-2pm. It is located in Royton Precinct and features a wide range of produce and traders. What makes this market so special is that 95% of the food sold is produced by the traders themselves. Take Bobby's Bangers for example; often referred to as the Willy Wonka of the sausage world, the team like to push the boundaries in butchery, creating seasonal flavoured sausages ready to eat there and then. One of their best sellers is the famous Bombay sausages - with caramelised pineapple and fresh coriander. Bobby's Bangers have recently won two prestigious awards; one when they travelled to Jimmy Doherty's farm and beat his sausages to become Sausage Producers of the Year. The second award was won during National Sausage Week; Bobby's Bangers came first in the region, beating hundreds of other sausage producers. Heather Taylor - owner of Bobby's Bangers - had the idea of the 'real' food market, and works in partnership with the Oldham Markets team. Heather said that even though she travels the country to different farmers' markets, Royton Real Food 'beats them all'. The market will be open every first Sunday of the month until Dec 2014. There are so many stalls to discover, so come along and meet fabulous real food producers, selling great food.
