According to the owner of Lameizi, Mr Li, preparation is the key to Szechuan cuisine. The chefs arrive early to begin slicing, marinating, steaming and roasting, while ingredients like peppers, spices and chillies are sourced direct from China. This adds an authentic touch to dishes that set Lameizi above the competition, and such dedication to excellence has won this great restaurant a legion of fans from both the Chinese community and tourists keen for a true taste of the Orient. From the earthiness of the smoky wood ear mushrooms to crispy prawn starters served with a tasty dipping sauce, the food's presentation and flavours remain faithful to what you would hope for if you were in China. The mouth-watering spiced dish of steamed chicken breast and the sliced beef with Szechuan chilli pepper showcase the Szechuan region's culinary style. Staff at Lameizi believe food should be nutritious, authentic, tasty and healthy. You won't find any artificial flavour enhancers like MSG, and the chefs are happy to dial down the chillies for Western palates. The service is always friendly and the staff will guide those new to this cuisine through the regularly updated menu. If you haven't tried Szechuan food before, I advise you to give it a go: it combines the fieriness of Indian food with the creativity and variety of Cantonese and Korean cuisines. Located on Chester Street, just off Oxford Road or a short stroll from Manchester Oxford Road railway station, Lameizi is an easy find, and is close to a number of attractions for anyone on the lookout for new and interesting flavours to begin or end a night out with. The Palace Theatre, for example, is a mere five minutes down the road, while the HOME theatre and cinema can be found ten minutes away. Adventurous students will also find Lameizi's dependable dishes a boon, as the restaurant is close to the University of Manchester's main campus. All that's left to do now is to seek this exciting eatery out
