Font Bar is a spacious Café bar in the heart of Manchester's student district. With its laid-back, funky atmosphere (stripped floors, wooden tables, comfy leather seating and colourful wall art), it's a great venue for a simple and tasty lunch or more stylised evening meal with a drink.

Diners can choose between several different hearty fry-ups or imaginative sandwiches (all served with chips, curly fries or wedges and salad). The long list includes plum tomato and goat's cheese with pesto relish; balsamic-roasted vegetables in a tortilla with a layer of houmous; and Jack Daniels-glazed chicken with salad and sweet onion dressing in a warm tortilla.

There is also a wide selection of beef, chicken and vegetable burgers, and combination plates such as crispy potato skins with various toppings, nachos and a tapas platter.

More substantial dishes include southern fried chicken with home-made Boston beans, veggie or Lincolnshire bangers 'n' mash with balsamic onion gravy, or veggie or beef chilli burritos. Font Bar also has a great specials menu that lists the starters, mains and desserts of the day.

Portions are generous and all meals are prepared on the premises using fresh ingredients. Service is speedy but if you're in a rush you can order food in advance, ready for when you arrive.

Despite its extensive food menu, Font is a popular watering hole in its own right, with a huge selection of wines, continental beers and lagers, cocktails and real ales. From 5pm to 8pm house wines are priced £6 per bottle, and from 5pm to 10pm all cocktails are £2 and bottles of Nastro Azzuro are two for the price of one. There is a wide range of guest ales, too, which changes monthly.
