Nestled in Manchester’s vibrant Northern Quarter, the eminently popular El Capo invites you to relax in casual, rustic warmth and embrace its passion for all things South American.

The food offering here is inspired and exciting. I began with crunchy avocado bruschetta while my partner opted for patatas bravas with caramelised balsamic vinegar and muscovado sugar dressing. Tacos are a particularly popular option at El Capo. These come with a choice of fillings, such as slow-roasted pork shoulder in an orange and smoky paprika sauce; rubbed beef brisket with honey and spices; and panga, a light, spicy, shallow-fried fish. My vegetarian chilli conveyed just the right level of heat – the addition of Nicaraguan chocolate could be subtly detected, working in perfect harmony with the tang of tomatoes.

Manager Eddy believes tequila is misunderstood. We loved listening as he presented us with the facts; for instance, pure tequila is made from blue agave, equating to more body, a purer and stronger flavour, and less hangover. Eddy claims he can change anyone’s mind about tequila; even if, like most of us at one point or another, you’ve been traumatised by an encounter with the infamous spirit. All-in-all, we fell in love with the ridiculously good soul food and eye-opening tequila experience that we enjoyed at El Capo – we are certain you will, too.
