Alabama's All American Eatery
We were welcomed to Alabama’s by an enthusiastic team, who were quick to provide us with water and recommendations. Alabama’s offer a number of both sweet and savoury brunches. Options such as bacon and maple syrup on a stack of buttermilk pancakes, vanilla waffles, and French toast grabbed our attention.
To keep us going as we browsed the impressive menu, my partner ordered a fresh banana milkshake while I opted for an Americano. Alabama’s offer a selection of big breakfasts, egg muffins, omelettes, hot lunches, vegan dishes, and a variety of sandwiches, along with crabcakes, étouffée (a Southern-style stew of Creole and Cajun origin), Castroville cakes and Cajun chicken. My partner and I eventually decided on the Philly cheese steak sandwich and hot salt beef sandwich (with delicious onion petals and sauerkraut), and agreed that we needed to return and sample the remainder of the menu. Accompanied by perfectly cooked skinny fries and a fresh salad with sharp vinaigrette, our selections went down a treat.
To finish, I couldn’t resist trying one of the daily special hard shakes, made with fresh fruit, cream and a shot of liqueur. The venue is authentically decorated with classic American pop culture references, 1930s diner-style sidelights and a bookshelf of American fiction, as well as boasting a marvellous menu – we will certainly become regular diners at Alabama’s.
