Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The Merlin reopened in December 2005 and immediately took the area by storm. The interior design manages to strike a balance between the comforts of a pub and the unadulterated style of the trendiest Manchester restaurant. This country pub with a difference can be found nestling between leafy Alderley Edge and Wilmslow, and dates back to the 1800s. Once a grand, private country residence, the building is still dedicated to the finer things in life and maintains an atmosphere that encourages total rest and relaxation. The menu is simple and effective. Lots of fresh fish, fresh pasta, traditional pizzas and aged steaks mean there is plenty of choice for guests. Dip into the Greek mezze sharing plate and experience the Mediterranean flavours of taramasalata, hummus, tzatziki, feta, olives and flatbreads for a tasty price. Tuna niçoise with flakes of fish, free-range egg, tomato, new potatoes, green beans, olives, capers and anchovies is a great light lunch but, for those with a larger appetite, the rack of lamb is served with garlic potatoes, baby onions and the freshest asparagus. Whatever you do, please save room for dessert, where real indulgence comes to the fore. All in all, The Merlin has become a must-visit destination. It even has a car park, which frequent visitors to Alderley Edge will know is worth its weight in gold. Enjoy.
