Chinese and East Asian
Established in 1996 by head chef May and husband Steve, Chilli Banana is one of the most popular eateries locally, and a destination for Thai food connoisseurs. The ethos behind its success is simple - to provide authentic Thai food the way May's mother cooks it at home back in Thailand. Chilli Banana's team of Thai chefs create exquisite dishes using only the best ingredients, combining specially imported herbs and spices with fresh local produce. The menu includes classic Thai dishes such as satay - succulent marinated chicken or pork skewers, barbecued and served with homemade peanut sauce and cucumber pickle. Delicious main courses include nua pad kimow ('drunken' beef) - juicy strips of rump steak stir fried with chilli and lime leaf. But the jewel in the crown of Chilli Banana is its ever-changing specials menu. Try authentic dishes such as si krong moo tod (spare ribs marinated in ginger, garlic and coriander) or massaman nua (Thai muslim curry with tender cubes of beef cooked with baby potatoes, shallots and peanuts). May, Steve and the staff are always pleased to share their knowledge of Thai food, and you can allow them to choose a personalised banquet selection for your table. The Sunday lunch buffet, served every Sunday from noon until 3pm, is a great way to try new dishes and is perfect for families - customers can help themselves from a great selection of dishes for just £14.95.
