As far as pub locations go, they don't get much better than this. Perched on the edge of the Peak District in the Goyt Valley, The Ram's Head (built circa 1650) was once the main stop-off point for coaches travelling between Manchester and London. These days, journeyers still drop by for the warm atmosphere, fresh food and great selection of liquid refreshment. Food-wise, you'll certainly have plenty to choose from. If you fancy sharing with friends, choose the house sampler - a selection of starters such as seared fresh black pearl scallops, slow-cooked pork belly with Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer glaze and honey-roasted figs and prosciutto ham. Mains feature top-quality meat like grilled fillet steak and roasted breast of duck, and wonderfully fresh seafood like smoked loin of cod with spicy puy lentils and a crispy salt cod fritter. There are always vegetarian options too, and pudding might be delectable salted caramel and chocolate in a pastry pot or mascarpone cheesecake with cherry compote. Fantastic sandwiches are served from noon until 6pm, Monday to Saturday; and, like everything here, they are made fresh from topclass ingredients by the talented chef. Pop by on a Sunday and enjoy their legendary 'platter', or simply stop in for a pint of cask ale and a read of the papers. Disley's railway station is just next door, so enjoy a walk along the River Goyt before a meal. The Ram's Head offers everything you need for a bit of you time
