This triumvirate of charming bistros - Bistro Pierre, Bistro Jacques and Bistro Franc - is part of a welcome resurgence in Gallic hospitality in Merseyside. Right in the heart of Liverpool's teeming city centre, these Continental eateries have people returning time and again. Naturally, these three bistro brothers - each one an unhurried, lowlit oasis of calm - bear all the hallmarks of a traditional bistro. Wooden furniture, exposed brickwork, chequered tablecloths, candles in wine bottles and French paintings are deftly woven together with friendly service to create visions of the cobbled-street eateries of Paris. On a daily basis, an eclectic mix of people assemble to sample the splendid hospitality - theatregoers, students, shoppers, foodies and business people alike gather to create a wonderfully bohemian atmosphere.

Each restaurant offers a mouth-watering selection of dishes, and menus change daily to make use of the local produce available. The menus boast French favourites such as pan-fried frogs legs and confit duck and fig salad to start, followed by leek and wild mushroom puff pastry mille-feuille served with a garlic and tarragon sauce, classic coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon. You'll also find delicious dishes influenced by various other Mediterranean countries. The 'Lunch Rapide' menu offers three courses for £8.75 from noon until 4.30pm every day, and there is also a pre-theatre menu available early evening (Sunday to Thursday 4.30pm to 7pm, Friday and Saturday 4.30pm until 6.30pm), when three courses cost just £11.90. Additionally, there's a Wednesday night 'Wine and Dine' offer at Bistro Pierre, when two courses from the à la carte menu and a bottle of wine cost just £14.95 - also available at Bistro Jacques and Bistro Franc on Tuesdays and Sundays respectively, and for students on Mondays.

You'll find Bistro Pierre in Liverpool's Cavern Quarter, near the world-famous Matthew Street, Bistro Jacques in the heart of theatreland, and Bistro Franc just minutes away from the L1 shopping centre.
