45-47 Frodsham Street, Chester, CH1 3JJ

This lively restaurant specialises in bringing authentic, traditional Turkish cuisine to the heart of Chester. Tucked away on Frodsham Street, close to the Chester walls and Cathedral, Meze is conveniently placed for those sightseeing. The vibrant decor features deep red walls, long tables and yellow chairs. Since opening in 2014, Meze has flourished under the guidance of owner, Rasit Yaman. This popular venue has something for everyone, and is the perfect place for a family outing or sociable meal with friends.

The staff are driven by a passion for cooking, with herbs and spices, and for immersive dining experiences. The kitchen brigade uses traditional Turkish methods to prepare authentic fare, cooking over charcoal grills and barbecues that enhance the flavours of their dishes and infuse the food with a delicious smokiness. Head chef Suleyman was born in Istanbul and developed an early appreciation for hearty, traditional Turkish fare. His enthusiasm encourages him to push the boundaries of the cuisine he loves by creating innovative new dishes.

Meze tempts guests with a range of hot and cold starters. Standout dishes include tasty spinach boregi, comprising pastry parcels stuffed with spinach, feta and onion, as well as kalamar – large, crispy calamari rings accompanied by a pot of homemade tartare sauce. The majority of dishes are meant to be shared, and if you visit in a group you won’t regret ordering a range and sampling a bit of everything. The main menu is bursting with popular Turkish ingredients, like diced lamb and chicken, roasted peppers, mushrooms and onions. Though Meze is sure to prove popular with meat-enthusiasts, there’s an appealing selection of vegetarian and seafood dishes as well. Why not have a glass of Turkey’s national drink, raki for added authenticity? There is a range of sweet options to round off your meal. As well as the likes of chocolate fudge cake and strawberry cheesecake, there are delicious Turkish pastries like baklava and kadayif available. Meze is the sort of place that brings people together; their ethos of ‘made for sharing, made with love’ is evident in all they do.
