The Duke of Wellington Inn

0.5 miles
Newton, NE43 7UL

Situated in the hamlet of Newton in the Tyne valley, The Duke of Wellington Inn is a traditional British pub that offers six luxury double bedrooms with king-sized beds and en-suite bathrooms, and one equally comfortable twin room. The Duke of Wellington Inn is situated conveniently close to Hadrian’s Wall, making it a great place to stay if you’re looking to explore the area. Should you find yourself on the eastern stretch of the wall’s trail, the pub’s friendly team will even come to pick you up to make sure you finish your day with a fantastic meal and wonderful overnight stay.

Although traditional in its nature, the pub’s food ranges from the likes of steak and ale pie with mashed potato, mushy peas and gravy, to pan-roasted duck breast with cep purée, girolles, smoked potatoes, roasted blackberries, redcurrants and Port jus. The quality of the food here is second to none. Head chef Dave Mckie prepares enticing menus that make the most of seasonal produce as well as some outstanding daily specials. For a truly unique meal, start with the Cambodian marinated beef with cashews, shallots, lime and a black pepper dip, then choose pan-fried sea trout with soused vegetables, paprika potatoes, carrot purée, a smoked mackerel bonbon, and samphire and prawn butter. Desserts include devilish dark chocolate delice, with salted caramel popcorn, caramel ice cream and caramel sauce, and heavenly lemon tart served with meringue, summer berries and raspberry sorbet.

The regularly changing menu means that you’ll always find something to tempt, however frequently you visit, or however long you stay.
