The Star of Siam
Chinese and East Asian
The Star of Siam has been serving Thai-food connoisseurs of the North East for over 20 years. The longevity of the restaurant is no doubt thanks to the authentic Thai experience and reasonable prices offered. Traditional Thai recipes are put to use by only the best in the business, an ethos that has served this Far Eastern gem well since it first opened in the Metro Centre in 1988. Now located within the respected Highfield Hotel, The Star of Siam is a serene setting for exploring the carefully balanced menu. If you’re unfamiliar with Thai cuisine, there’s a chilli scale to help you select a dish with as little or as much kick as you like. Favourites include classic starters of chicken satay and crispy duck. Main courses provide even more temptation, offering curries – the dry Penang with beef, coconut milk, kaffir leaves and capsicums being my favourite – as well as stir-fries and rice and noodle dishes. Set-menu options complete the criteria, making this restaurant gold-star worthy.
