51 Bell Street, North Shields, NE30 1HF

Run by experienced restaurateurs Paul and Michelle Scott, River Café on the Tyne is one of only a handful of restaurants in the North East to have earned a prestigious Michelin Bib Gourmand for five consecutive years. The award-winning establishment prides itself on providing great-quality food at really accessible prices, fantastic service, and is renowned locally for its memorable food and wine evenings.

Menus include plenty of freshly sourced seafood, taking advantage of its fantastic location, alongside Mediterranean-inspired favourites. Starters include roasted tomato bruschetta with balsamic and Port, North Shields crab salad with toasted focaccia, and three cheese arancini with Parmesan velouté. For a satisfying main, perhaps plump for beer-battered market fish with triple-cooked chips and tartare sauce, or the steamed mussels. These come with a choice of three sauces: classic white wine garlic and cream; cider, bacon and rosemary, or lemongrass, chilli and ginger. All are served as a starter or as a main with a portion of perfectly crisp French fries.

The extensive wine list has something for all tastes and budgets and suits the menu perfectly. Desserts such as spiced plum crumble with Chantilly cream, and sticky toffee pudding enhanced by salted caramel, toffee, and liquorice ice cream provide the perfect end to a delightful meal.
