Uno’s Trattoria is a charming Italian restaurant with a rustic style. The pleasant ambience, helpful staff and authentic Italian cuisine make Uno’s a great choice for a special occasion, but it’s equally well-suited to a family dinner during the week. The menu showcases a broad selection of the best of Italy’s world-famous cuisine, including pizza, pasta, risotto and salads. I started with the delicious trio of arancini, which proved the ideal way to start proceedings. The balance of full, fresh flavours was a promising start to the meal. I moved on to the risotto salmone made with smoked salmon, dill, peas and lemon, while my companion chose a sumptuous fish dish from the à la carte selection. The sea bass was delicate but filling, served on a bed of crushed potatoes, peas and spinach and presented skilfully. We couldn’t resist sampling one of the delicious-sounding desserts, and plumped for the amaretto crème brûlée – it’s hard to imagine a better end to such an authentically Italian meal. Special lunch and early-evening menus represent great value for money, and Uno’s also serves a popular Sunday lunch. With such friendly service, a cosy atmosphere, and great Italian food, it’s no wonder Newcastle’s foodies have been making a beeline for Uno’s Trattoria.
