Moji is a different kind of Chinese restaurant. A funky, bright interior, complete with an exposed-brick bar means this contemporary restaurant suits the nearby fashionable Ouseburn area. Within easy reach of the city centre and the universities, Moji is perfectly located and is a popular choice amongst the local Asian community. Combine all this with no less than six karaoke rooms, and you have the perfect venue for parties too.

Moji offers a choice between Western-Chinese and traditional Chinese menus - fusing Szechuan and Cantonese flavours. Adventurously opting for the latter, we were treated to rare specialities including king prawn gong bao, packed with crunchy peanuts and dried Szechuan chillies. The Moji sweet-and-salt-roasted duck was exactly as described and certainly delicious. But what really stole the show was our new favourite dish - twice-cooked cod. Delicate morsels of fresh cod lightly coated in flour and served with hot chillies was a flavourful masterpiece. Our convivial hosts then offered us a tasting plate of sticky sweet-and-sour pork ribs, bang-bang chicken and aromatic five-spice beef. The chicken was a riot of sweet, sour and salty flavours and went down a treat with my Tsingtao beer. If you're looking to be transported to an Oriental paradise, Moji is just a hop, skip and a jump away and offers a real taste of the East.
