McKenna's at the Northern Stage
McKenna’s at Northern Stage is a hidden gem. Just steps from the city centre it’s ‘the’ place to eat within Newcastle’s Northern Stage theatre. The restaurant has a relaxed, friendly vibe and is perfect for al fresco dining with friends away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
There’s a proud heritage of good food here, which proves to be especially popular during theatre season when there’s great demand for the well-priced and varied menu that includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices.
From the menu, we ordered the fish bon bons accompanied with zingy, refreshing ribbons of pickled vegetables and ginger, and the hake fillet with brown shrimp in a light lemon butter sauce which was simply incredible. For dessert, we recommend the chef’s own crème brûlée, which boasts a beautifully crunchy topping and a rich and creamy custard filling. Watch out for McKenna’s blackboard specials. On it you will find a selection of delectable tapas style dishes that change regularly; perfect for sharing alongside a bottle of wine with a few friends.
There’s also a wide selection of drinks, including an impressive wine list and cocktail specials that change regularly.
With everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner to coffee, cake and cocktails, you’ll enjoy fresh locally sourced produce expertly prepared in a charming venue.
