The Broad Chare
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
At The Broad Chare, beers are chosen for their quality, craftsmanship and interest, so a good pint is always guaranteed. There’s always a changing selection of guest ales, which includes an own-label brew, The Writer’s Block from Wylam Brewery. There is also a fascinating range of bottled beers from around the world, as well as 15 wines by the glass and a quirky collection of whiskies. Upstairs in the dining room, it’s all reassuringly simple with solid wood tables, sturdy schoolroom chairs and shiny brass coat hooks. Featured in The Telegraph’s Britain’s 50 Gastropubs 2017, menus here offer tasty, home-cooked British food like pubs used to serve. You can enjoy a sit-down meal, or, if you’re in the mood for grazing or you’re a bit pushed for time, grab a bar snack. These are all-day bar snacks with attitude – generous, full of flavour and deliberately tempting. The choice includes hand-raised pork pies, Scotch eggs and cauliflower fritters.
