The clue is in the name at River Beat; the venue is located in an old police station on the banks of the River Tyne, overlooking the historic quayside, and offers plenty of great beats to enjoy the fine food to. Sociable, laid-back dining is the order of the day as the kitchen whips up the finest, freshest tapas inspired by East Asian cuisine. Owner Andy Drape had a vision to create a relaxed venue where diners could try a bit of everything and feel as comfortable as possible. To start with, enjoy a drink in the tapas bar while you peruse the menus, where you’ll find an exceptional array of mouth-watering treats, including plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options, such as delicious truffle and curried cauliflower fritters with vindaloo dip. Discover the likes of pink salt and pepper squid with plum and tamarind dip, soft-shell crab, and River Beat kelek ‘yellow boat’ curry with king prawns. Children have their own menu and the desserts are well worth a look. Make an evening of it, grab a light bite and a drink or unwind in the courtyard in the summer and dine on tapas all afternoon – at River Beat it really is up to you. Just don’t leave it too late, as the last food orders are at 8.45pm. Entertainment and music are part of the package and there are rooms available to hire for up to 20 people. The cocktail bar upstairs holds up to 60 people and is also available for private hire.
