The Rabbit Hole
There’s nothing quite like The Rabbit Hole; it’s more than just a restaurant and after you’ve stepped inside this 1920s-inspired Shanghai jazz supper club you’ll soon see why. The restaurant pays homage to a bygone era of pure decadence and indulgence relived in all its glory. Once inside this luxury time warp you’ll notice that the space is atmospherically lit, cosy and mysterious with hidden passages and doors, creating the perfect balance of comfort and sophistication where diners are asked to dress for the occasion and wear upscale attire. Hosting regular live jazz nights, it’s one to make a date in the diary for.
Although The Rabbit Hole only opened in September this year, the restaurant has already attracted serious attention from devout foodies, in large part thanks to the menu, which offers something the North East has never seen before. The chefs have created exceptional sharing dishes by combining the best of the exotic Far East with the highest quality produce of the whimsical West, including superb steaks cooked on the wood-fired grill.
Stunning fish dishes, such as the salt and pepper seafood platter and market oysters served with ginger and rice wine vinaigrette, taste fresh and look vibrant. If you’re looking for something a bit richer in flavour you must order the Mongolian lamb shank; braised in an intense savoury tomato and oyster sauce, the lamb melts in the mouth – it’s the perfect dish to enjoy in the wintry months alongside a robust and punchy red wine.
With a warren of elegant bars to discover, you’d do yourself a disservice not to try one of the cocktails. The dry bone Martini will knock your socks off while the Old Fashioned has a serious kick. If you fancy something a little lighter, The Rabbit Hole has ice-cold Tiger beer on tap, which is delightfully refreshing, in addition to an enviable selection of fine wine.
If you’re ready to get your glad rags on and engage in rich conversation over a decadent meal, The Rabbit Hole is the place for you. It’s a culinary treasure trove just waiting to be discovered.
