Bistro Citron Vert
On the edge of High Pittington, Bistro Citron Vert is housed within a beautiful 200-year-old stone building – a former pub – that has been skilfully renovated and now has striking wooden windows painted in a cheerful lemon yellow. Owner Cary Kayll has created a modern and airy interior; the relaxed ambience that so many diners mention is due, in part, to the decor, but also the friendliness of the front-of-house staff.
Lunch and brunch are offered from midday, with items such as steak frites, eggs Benedict, and steak and caramelised onion baguette. There’s also always an exceptional soup on offer. For a quintessentially French evening meal, plump for mussels steamed in white wine, butter, garlic and fresh parsley, followed by steak and peppercorn sauce, or the fish of the day. Everyone comments on the gorgeous triple-cooked chips. Desserts are a must here, especially the ever-popular tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream, and a delightful French cheeseboard. The dinner menu changes every month, allowing head chef Stuart West to provide seasonal options throughout the year. The traditional roast Sunday lunch is always popular, so be to sure to book in advance.
