I cannot speak highly enough of this lovely restaurant in Hockley. I would recommend it to anyone looking for top-quality food served by a welcoming, professional team.

Head chef Ethan Rodgers - who honed his talent at reputable London restaurants including The Dorchester and The Conrad - sources his ingredients locally whenever possible. Organic rare-breed meat is delivered from French's Farm in Brentwood, and fresh fish is supplied by Direct Seafoods of Colchester and the Maldon Oyster Company in Chelmsford. Knowing this, I plumped for the salmon risotto, followed by the roast pork loin with belly, celeriac purée, potato fondant, caramelised apple and cider sauce. Each course was prepared with a culinary flair that perfectly complemented the quality ingredients. Finally, my pudding of coffee cream with cinnamon doughnuts was a delight - the fluffy doughnuts sending me straight to seventh heaven. This was a meal that reminded me just how exciting food can be.

Harrisons provides some of the best service I've enjoyed in a long time, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed yet special. They put on a fantastic Sunday roast and can cater for private parties of up to 40 guests. Afternoon tea is served every Friday between noon and 5pm, and is also available during other lunchtimes with notice. Head to Hockley village soon to experience the joy of Harrisons Restaurant, recently awarded 'Best Small Restaurant' at the Essex Food and Drink Awards 2011.
