Tucked away in serene surroundings on Point Pleasant lies new restaurant, Mayak. Once inside, diners are given the option of eating in the newly decorated restaurant with views across the river, or alfresco right on the edge of the river. Either way, Mayak is the perfect setting to enjoy some fabulous bistro fare, the selection on offer combining a healthy number of fish dishes mixed with seasonal starters and mains.

Once settled at our table overlooking South West London, we agreed on grilled goat's cheese with beetroot and honey dressing, and poached tiger prawns with baby gem salad and coriander dressing. The generous goat's cheese salad was delicious, gooey and expertly seasoned, the creaminess of the cheese contrasting brilliantly with the sharpness of the beetroot and honey dressing. The tiger prawns were poached to perfection, offset beautifully by the crunch of the leaves.

The mains were brought out at just the right time - the attentive staff know exactly how long it takes to enjoy a starter. I opted for the grilled fillet of beef, served with sautéed French beans and Bordelaise jus whilst my fellow diner chose delicate and perfectly cooked lemon sole with brown shrimps in meuniére sauce. The fillet of beef was absolutely incredible. My steak knife was completely unnecessary as the steak was tender, sumptuous and full of flavour.

And as if that wasn't enough, Mayak also offers a great dessert menu too. I sampled the white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake which was light and full of flavour. The creme brulée was also a triumph of subtle flavours.

Mayak is definitely worth a visit, for the views equal the stunning menu. Special mention has to go to the supervisors, who demonstrated exactly what should constitute good service.
