The Brasserie at The Cumberland
Cool, contemporary and relaxed, The Brasserie at The Cumberland is designed for informal but stylish dining. Whether you drop in for a coffee, a midday bite or an evening meal, you’re promised London quality with home comforts and friendly service.
If you come in search of something light, you’ll be pleased to find the likes of garlic sourdough bread with roasted peppers, tomato and basil, and open steak sandwich on the bill of fare. If, however, you’re stopping in after a morning’s sightseeing or shopping, you may need something heartier. The chorizo and red pepper risotto, Casterbridge burger with Swiss cheese and hand-cut chips, or fish and chips with homemade tartare sauce should see you re-energised for the afternoon’s activities.
If you’re due a more substantial feed – or simply a good night out – then begin by looking to the selection of starters. Here, you’ll find tantalising appetisers like chicken and duck liver parfait with toasted sourdough and cider, apple and grape chutney, and rock oysters from Mersea Island with lemon, shallot vinegar and Tabasco. The main event will involve the likes of roast partridge with gravy, rump of lamb on a bed of tomato and Parmesan gnocchi, and spatchcock of baby chicken with a honey, garlic and citrus glaze. Desserts follow suit deliciously, as does the extensive bar menu. Afternoon tea is also on offer – a very worthwhile indulgence.
