The Woolpack is a rare find in central London - a pub full of eccentric character with a large beer garden in which to enjoy the summer sunshine. And, even if the weather turns cold, there's a heated canopy to keep the chill away. Inside, one wall is tiled from floor to ceiling and lined with burgundy leather booth seating, whilst others feature wood panelling, paisley-patterned wallpaper and flying ducks. Adding to the eclectic atmosphere is the fresco overhead in the function room, which is based on the Sistine Chapel's famous ceiling.

To start, perhaps try the golden tempura tiger prawns with a sweet chilli dipping sauce, or the pork and pistachio terrine with cider jelly and toast. There's also a great selection of refreshing salads, including grilled goat's cheese, grilled chicken or oak-smoked salmon. For mains, expect dishes like Scottish salmon fishcake with spinach, poached egg and hollandaise sauce, sautéed gnocchi with roasted vegetables in tomato sauce, and steak and ale pie with horseradish mash. The delicious sandwiches - such as the steak with mushrooms, onion, tomato and mayonnaise - are an excellent lunchtime solution.

There's no better way to enjoy a lazy Sunday than with a Woolpack Sunday roast followed by a sumptuous warm chocolate pudding. You are sure to leave satisfied and with a warm glow, safe in the knowledge you've stumbled upon a new favourite haunt.
