Tucked away inside the new wing of the magnificent Southwark Cathedral, a stone's throw from the Golden Hinde, Clink Prison Museum, Vinopolis and Shakespeare's Globe, you'll find the ever-popular Refectory café. Open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, it also offers a daily changing range of seasonal home-cooked goods to suit appetites large and small.

With its gorgeous stone floor, vases of beautiful lilies and a delightful courtyard outside (it's perfect for enjoying a bite to eat in the sunshine), The Refectory provides counter-style service, with friendly staff serving up piping-hot, freshly prepared fare seven days a week. The delicious, reasonably priced offering here ranges from homemade soups with fresh bread and colourful salads, to made-to-order pastas and other wholesome options. If you're looking for something more indulgent, you won't be able to resist the tempting creations of the expert pastry chefs, who prepare a host of freshly baked cakes on site - the carrot and ginger, lemon and poppy seed and traditional Victoria sandwich varieties are amongst the most popular choices. Of course, you can expect a range of teas and Fairtrade coffees to accompany your sweet treat, and there are soft drinks, wine and beer, too, if you're in the mood for something else.

Children are well catered for, with smaller portions available for the little ones. Whether you're a hungry tourist taking a walk along the Southbank, you're on your lunch break, or you just fancy a cup of coffee, this is the perfect pit-stop.
