At the heart of London's buzzing business district, minutes from the bright lights of the West End, you'll find Refettorio. Directed by Michelin-starred chef Giorgio Locatelli - widely considered one of the finest Italian chefs in the UK - the restaurant is located within the luxurious Crowne Plaza London-The City. Like the hotel lobby, the restaurant decor is modern and refreshingly unfussy, with a handful of retro touches. The restaurant attracts a varied crowd: from businessmen and women in their suits, to well-heeled tourists and hotel guests. Refettorio caters for both dinners à deux and lively groups of friends, with diners free to disappear into intimate booths, or socialise at the glossy refectory tables that give the restaurant its name.

Traditional Italian cuisine made from the freshest ingredients is the order of the day here. Expect to be faced with a tantalising array of beautifully cooked, contemporary Italian dishes. Start with pan-seared scallops with cannellini bean purée, parsley and white wine sauce, before fresh spaghettini with Mazara del Vallo red prawns or grilled fillet of English beef with potato rosti, caramelised shallots and veal sauce. Desserts such as amaretto parfait with chocolate sauce are a must.

The wine list features over 100 Italian wines and liqueurs, personally selected by the restaurant's sommelier. For the oenophile, it's a list made in heaven; and it's a great place to begin for those who haven't yet discovered the delights of Italy's wine-growing regions.

To top it off, the service is excellent and never intrusive. Marrying smart city dining with a relaxed vibe, Refettorio is stylish and unique.
