Blackfriars Wine Bar Restaurant
Tucked under the arches of an overhead railway track, a stone’s throw from Southwark tube and a walkable distance from Waterloo and London Bridge, Blackfriars Wine Bar Restaurant is a secret that’s been keeping local office workers merry for over 30 years. Terry Barnard has run the show for a long time, and Terry and his staff’s passion for what they do is reflected in the wine bar’s relaxed, fun and friendly atmosphere.
Terry carefully chooses the well-executed wine list, which covers a wide range of varieties and regions, ensuring that everything from the house red to the Dom Pérignon is high quality and quaffable. There’s also a good selection of bottled and draft beers, as well as delightful lunch and evening menus of wholesome food.
The menu is concise but varied, so there’s something for everyone. The homemade stone-baked pizzas are hearty and tasty – mine was topped with Parma ham, olives and mozzarella – while my partner’s chicken rogan josh curry rivalled the best London curry houses. Blackfriars Wine Bar is a tiptop venue for events, parties and business meetings, with a side room that can support presentations. Business aside, Blackfriars is perfect for unwinding after a hard day’s work and filling up on delicious fare.
If you’re looking for a lovely weekend getaway, the bar is part of The Edinburgh Collection; a selection of hotels in the centre of Edinburgh, which provide the perfect escape. Visit www.theedinburghcollection.com for more information.
