Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The menu provides a visual and gastronomic feast with dishes that range from the exotic sounding ostrich and ale stew with basmati rice, to wild boar and apple sausages with mashed potato. And of course the safer sounding steaks, burgers and pasta dishes also feature.
Thai crab and prawn tartare with avocado and raspberry dressing to start followed by sea bass served in a light and elegant saffron sauce were my dishes of choice. I particularly like that the menu is changed daily to incorporate the fresh fish catch of the day. The desserts are homemade with lovely comfort puddings such as pear and apple crumble with cream, as well as a wonderful selection of ice creams, sorbets and an excellent cheese board.
A comprehensive wine list includes organic labels and something that is very often overlooked - a respectable dessert wine.
The venue is a popular haunt with locals (always a good sign) and its proximity to the High Street means it is easily accessible for visitors to the Richmond area. With affordable prices and a sophisticated menu, this is my first choice for lunchtime respite or a more leisurely evening with friends.
