Rara is a restaurant that causes locals to wax lyrical over its merits and fans of sublime Indian and Nepalese cuisine flock to it, knowing they will be delighted with the authentic, inventive and stunningly presented food served within. Dishes here are made by chefs who always uphold the Rara kitchen ethos: use the freshest ingredients, healthiest olive oil and bespoke blends of spices to wow diners with truly outstanding cuisine.

We began with a firm favourite starter of king prawn aduwa, and I could quickly see why it had earned such a status, as the plump, charred prawns that had been marinated in green herbs and cooked in the tandoor really set us up for what was to come. Similarly, the vegetable samosas, which offered a bit of punch without being too spicy, were generously filled, crispy and packed full of flavour.

For our mains, we again followed a recommendation. The Royal Rara, a signature dish of the restaurant and rightly so, consisted of succulent whole chicken breasts wrapped around large king prawns that are cooked and served in a medium, creamy and rich masala sauce. Another winning choice was the gently spiced salmon tikka, which also benefitted from some charring in the tandoor oven. Alongside these, we enjoyed the moreish Nepalese daal, the fluffy special rice (with spring onions, peas, egg and spices), and the tandoori roti, which makes a great alternative to a naan bread for mopping up the sauces.

For curry lovers who do prefer a little more heat, there's an entire section of the menu dedicated to the likes of jalfrezi, jeera chicken and lamb Chettinad, to name but a few. The chefs' ability to produce light, flavoursome dishes that, despite coming in very generous portions, will leave you wanting more, is what makes Rara stand out from the crowd.

Owners Baz and Prakash will extend a warm welcome and happily guide you through the menu. Then, like us, you'll soon see why the locals keep coming back for more
