Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
After a relaxed stroll through Richmond Park, why not put your feet up at the charmingly rustic Victoria? This pub with rooms has garnered quite the following of both locals and those from further afield, who are drawn back by the cosy interior and the comfortable home-from-home vibe that you get as soon as you walk through the door.
Another of the pub’s draws is the food. Talented head chef Paul Merrett has created an inventive menu that fuses classic British cuisine with his own imaginative spin. I began with a Scotch egg, paired with green bean, beetroot and pea shoot salad. My partner chose the homemade labneh with pomegranate syrup and pistachio and honey croquante, which was as pretty as a painting and very tasty. For mains, I was immediately drawn to the duck confit. It was deliciously crispy and came with sweet red onion jam. Pan-fried plaice was my partner’s choice, and it was accompanied by mussels and a medley of vegetables. On our visit we were seated in a great spot, overlooking the pub’s garden – we’ll definitely be returning when the weather is warmer to take advantage.
Pick up a restaurant guide, and you’ll most likely find a glowing review of The Victoria amongst the pages. It has received a mention in the AA Restaurant Guide, Harden’s, the Michelin Guide, and many more. Visit yourself and you’ll agree that the pub’s reputation is well deserved.
