Janet and Manuel Turnes have been at the helm of this lovely establishment for almost 30 years, earning themselves an enviable reputation in the surrounding area. The Wych Elm is famous for its glorious floral displays and award-winning garden, tended to by botany buff and green-fingered landlady Janet and open to the public once a year to raise money for charity. In addition to the exotic plant life, guests can feast their eyes upon a great traditional menu, including Janet's popular homemade lasagne, liver and bacon - often known to sell out - and steak and kidney pie made using a recipe honed over the past three decades. The Sunday roast also goes down a treat, with vegetarians equally well catered for with the likes of Mediterranean vegetable and cheese Wellington. Bring the kids, and the dog, and enjoy quiz nights, darts or a jazz session. This gorgeous retreat is perfect for those who like a warm welcome, a thirst-quenching pint of real ale and great home-cooked fare.
