Frangos - Fire Grilled Chicken
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Situated in the modern leisure development at The Rotunda in Kingston upon Thames, Frangos is the ideal spot for dinner before a movie or a night out on the town; it is also a great venue for large parties and family get-togethers. You'll be greeted by billows of steam and mouth-watering aromas emanating from the grill, and a warm and inviting atmosphere created by solid wooden tables and bold orange-tinged walls - eye-catching and welcoming. The mixed Mediterraneancum- South American ambience is lively yet relaxed, with families, students and couples making the most of the value-for-money, full and flavoursome menu.
Fun and fiery, Frangos' extensive menu specialises in fire-grilled chicken and offers a world of flavour. Chicken wings, breasts or a whole chicken - whatever your choice, the cutlery is optional but the finger licking is obligatory. A starter of olives with chilli or garlic, or a bowl of fiery nuts, is a light and simple way to ease your way into the mains. Then prepare to get your hands dirty and your lips smacking with the fire-grilled chicken wings. As with all the chicken served at Frangos, you can choose your preferred level of spice using the handy temperature gauge, ranging from mild through to volcanic. For us, choosing a mixture of mild and spicy wings was a great way to gauge the threshold - the zesty lemon and herb flavours of the mild marinades had a great tang, whereas the spicy option had our tastebuds tingling.
The main-course options are almost endless - choose from Frangos combos, simply chicken on its own, famous fire-grilled platters or freshly prepared salads. We opted for the combos, which proved great value for money. We tucked into a chicken breast burger with one side dish and a quarter fire-grilled chicken with two sides - famous Frangos fries and corn on the cob were perfect accompaniments. The super-spicy dressing on my burger was a true test of the palate, but thoroughly delicious, and my partner proclaimed his fiery chicken leg 'hot and heavenly'. We made good use of the marinades offered on our table, enjoying every last mouthful of flavour with our fries.
Those needing to cool their mouths down after a fiery meal can do so with bottomless soft drinks, or perhaps something stronger from the excellent wine and beer selection. For dessert we shared a large slice of the homemade hot chocolate fudge cake with ice cream. Other tempting options included the rather unique stick waffles served with a smooth Belgium chocolate sauce, and the selection of Ben & Jerry's ice cream is also perfect for a little refreshment.
Whether you're a true fire grill fanatic or prefer a milder meal, at Frangos you'll find fantastic food that will leave you smiling and satisfied.
