Located in the lovely West London neighbourhood of Kensington, Blue Lagoon has established a far-reaching reputation for high-quality and authentic Thai cuisine and service. This recently renovated venue boasts elegant decor and a spacious yet intimate dining area, as well as a private space for large groups. The restaurant offers an extensive à la carte menu, which contains a host of seafood, meat and vegetarian options, together with reasonably priced set menus. What's more, every dish is freshly made on the premises by the Thai chef, from the nutty peanut satay sauce to the delicate rice pastry of the spring rolls.

We kicked off our evening in style with Blue Lagoon and Cosmopolitan cocktails, which we sipped as we perused the menu. On the owner's recommendations, we began with the beautiful vegetable spring rolls, which were wonderfully light and crispy, along with tender satay chicken with homemade peanut sauce. The standout starter, however, was the exquisite fried calamari topped with a sweet and sticky ginger honey sauce - simply delicious. The high standards continued as we moved onto our main courses. The flavoursome beef pad Thai had a powerful chilli kick and, with such a well-balanced combination of herbs and spices, it's easy to see why it has become one of the house favourites. The kang keow wan, a spicy green curry with slices of tender chicken, also packed a punch, while a well-presented dish of pla sam rod - crispy sea bass in a chilli and tamarind sauce - was every bit as pleasing to the palate. A side of beautifully fragrant coconut rice was the perfect accompaniment. We just about had room for the heavenly banana fritters, which were lovely and crisp on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside - the perfect end our meal.

Boasting affordable and exciting Thai cuisine, together with excellent service and a relaxed ambience, the Blue Lagoon is a must visit
