Pham Sushi - Whitecross Street
Chinese and East Asian
A huge fan of sushi, it was with great intrigue and excitement that I received the offerings of this popular and ideally located Japanese restaurant.
Open to trying anything from the delightful menu, we asked our waiter to bring whichever dishes he thought we’d enjoy, and we couldn’t have been more pleased with his choice. After an initial snack of lightly salted steamed edamame beans came an impressively presented deluxe sashimi set, comprising salmon, two types of tuna, and sea bream, all prettily rolled into flower shapes and served with shredded mooli, which gave a delightful crunch to the smooth texture of the fish. Next came a plate of thinly sliced toro (tuna belly) with fiery jalapeño peppers, served atop slices of sweet tomato, followed by a serving of goby topped with flying fish eggs and fresh seaweed. Just when we thought our feast couldn’t get any better, a serving of special rolls arrived at the table. Comprising luxurious snow crab and creamy avocado encased in smooth hirame (flatfish) sashimi and perfectly cooked sticky rice with lime, this dish was without doubt the star of the show. If you’re at all dubious about the prospect of sampling raw fish, a visit to Pham Sushi will certainly change your mind. I will definitely be visiting the conveniently located Pham Sushi sister restaurant at The Heron soon.
