The Royal Oak
There’s so much more to this popular riverside pub in Isleworth than first meets the eye, with its excellent varied menu proving an especially welcome surprise for the first-time visitor. Licensees Simon and Adrianne Mead have brought years of hospitality experience to this scenic spot and the fare on offer features a wide range of traditional and innovative dishes. Great meals are served in stylish surrounds that acknowledge the local traditions of filmmaking and rugby – the pub is just minutes from Twickenham Stadium.
Starters, salads and mains lean towards British tradition, but with subtle Mediterranean and Eastern influences. Our party enjoyed a selection from the dinner menu, starting with sharing plates that included Asian-spiced duck croquettes with plum sauce, and potato boats loaded with Cheddar, onion and bacon. All were deliciously appetising and offered excellent value for money.
Mains from the dinner menu include seasonal, classic and vegetarian options, as well as a range of daily specials. We enjoyed the beer-battered fillet of haddock with rustic chips and a Moroccan-style lamb burger, while the goat’s cheese and vegetable pie was very popular with the vegetarians among us. The puddings were also exceptional, with the local artisan South Street ice cream sundae proving to be a standout favourite. The range and quality of wine and beer on offer didn’t disappoint either, so we’ll be returning again soon.
