If ever a restaurant could be likened to a friendly handshake, it would have to be Chez Manny. Brothers Manny and Guillaume have created a quaint eatery which oozes personality, serving up fresh and innovative French cuisine.

The compact menu encompasses the individual, family-run charm of Chez Manny and the restaurant really captures the colourful culture of Battersea. With its interior of warm red hues and solid dark wood, plus outside seating on the High Street, the feel of this restaurant is quintessentially Continental. As a wine lover, Manny leaves no stone unturned in finding the right wine for your particular tastes, with a list including everything from the smooth and silky to the weird and wonderful. The Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2006 had depth, but was not so heavy as to overpower my companion's pork belly with Calvados jus, nor my pink-tinged duck fillets with Port sauce. Prior to this we enjoyed a dish of bubbling hot snails, simmering in lashings of garlic butter, and some fat, marinated scallops. Rich though the food is, you'd be mad not to try a traditional dessert, such as a truly splendid rosemary tarte tatin or a burnished creme brulée. If you're a purist when it comes to French cuisine this place is perfect; be prepared for a truly wholesome and varied menu showcasing the very best of Gallic gastronomy
